Josie Natori Spring/Summer 2019

This week’s runway report features a cosmopolitan summer look by Josie Natori. Polished and playful, it is sure to catch the eye of passersby. In the splurge section, delicate accessories that don’t take away from this striking outfit.

Runway Report: Natori draws inspiration from traditional Japanese style clothing in the crisp, white, structural peplum, wrap shirt. It is an interesting take on the classic button-up, with asymmetrical and drapery detailing that is appealing to the eye. The shirt also has a thick white belt, with a silver circular buckle and a lengthy strap. There are contrasting features that make this garment provoking without going overboard. The fabric used has a weighty and stiff texture, and the lines of the silhouette have straight edges, yet the shirt still looks light and buoyant. It is paired with a pair of low-rise, straight-leg capris, that have long outer pant-leg slits. There is a tie-dye pattern used on pants that further adds to the contemporary outfit. The white, pointed toe kitten heels have perforated illusion strap tops a that are simple but also make a statement. The dangle metal leaf earrings are urban and fun, just like the rest of this look.

A lot of different ideas in this outfit make it special. If you’re interested in repeating this look, focusing on particular elements of it would be best. Sinclair puff sleeve wrap detail shirt ($268) by DVF has voluminous puffed sleeves, a wrap detail, and long ties that brush the curved hem. Since the wrap top has so many intricacies, the tin colored Cropped dress pants ($90) by Calvin Klein have the same modern vibe as the tie-dye capris but allow the shirt to stand out on its own. The Clear monogram strap mules ($765) by Stella McCartney have the same design of the sleek point toe mules. The Gold double leaf earrings ($197) by Catherine Zoraida are gold plated silver and feature beautifully engraved feather details. Kate Middleton (The Dutchess of Cambridge) has been seen wearing these gorgeous earrings.

Splurge: There are many different ways to dress up this look to make it your own. The model in the runway is sporting a messy bun. Messy buns are the best for those days when you just don’t have time. The gold matte ‘Ficcarissimo' hair clip ($36-38) by Ficcare effortlessly adds flare to a twisted bun. If you’re feeling fancy, you can match the elegant gold leaf earrings, with either the Calliope cuff bracelet ($125) by Gas Bijoux or the Hammered gold midi ring ($195) by Boney Levy.

Natori’s creative interpretation of traditional Japanese clothing is innovative and tasteful. It is a versatile look that can be paired with an array of different accessories.
