Kate Spade Spring/Summer 2019

Kate Spade New York (KSNY) has always been known for its optimistic approach to femininity. This look from the Spring 2019 collection encompasses everything the brand stands for. With a vivacious and bright color pallet, the winsome outfit defines the KSNY style. In the splurge section, accessories that are both casual and upscale.

Runway Report: New creative director for KSNY, Nicola Glass, wanted to capture the essence of the original image of the Kate Spade (KS) woman in her debut collection. This runway look is a great example of Glass’s fervid aesthetic. The feminine and wearable silhouette has impactful prints, used in an intriguing combination. This look may seem as though it has been styled a bit haphazardly, however, there are many thoughtful details that go into every item.

The t-length dress in baby blue, has a sweetheart neckline, fitted bodice, and spaghetti straps. A luxe fabric with a 3D geometrical floral pattern adds depth to a basic dress shape. Shiny silver flower embellishments are intricately placed across the neckline which incorporates an element of glamour to the garment. Over the dress, a mauve cardigan with white buttons. There is sparkly pink detailing on the sweater; the pattern of the shapes are made out of the KS logo. The suede lilac sandals have crisscross straps and two silver buckles. The outfit is complete with a pair of lavender, color tone, over-sized sunglasses and a white clutch with royal blue and black logos, finished with black trimming.

There are many different ideas happening at once in this runway look. The individual items of the outfit are all cute. However, there is so much going on that it’s a little overwhelming. Still, the overall concept and pastel color scheme are fashion forward. There is an affordable way to capture the vibe of this ensemble without taking it too far. The light blue Villa dress ($126) by Tularosa gives off a delicate elegance similar to the KS dress. It is made from lightweight cotton which is more practical for a hot summer’s day. Instead of a two-toned 3D print, it has subtle embroidered floral appliques that give off the same feminine charm. The orchid purple Criss-cross mule sandals ($128) by Banana Republic are more upscale than the runway sandals, but they are still casual and comfortable. The retro-cool purple Square sunglasses ($19) by Leith takes the look in a fresh, modern direction. Feel fresh and free-spirited in this playful outfit.

Splurge: One of the most unique aspects of the KSNY outfit is the shiny silver embellishments on the dress. You can add the Primina flower drop earrings ($58) by BaubleBar or the Gray half-stacked crystal ring ($80) by Swarovski. If you find a dual tone sweater isn’t for you, the Tori raw edge crop denim jacket ($90-100) by Paige pairs well with the villa dress.

This week’s runway look by KSNY is an ode to the original Kate Spade woman. It celebrates femininity in an exuberant manner. It isn’t the most cohesive outfit, but it can be interpreted in simplers ways to make it work for you.
